Old Newspapers

I am sick reading nowadays newspapers, not only most of the contents are not worth reading, some not even worth included. What good does it bring to make a front page of an article on a housewife who was caught by his husband coupling with his boyfriend in a hotel room on her birthday. I know, it is a damn thing but what is a point of putting it on a front page? Sex sells right? Pick up any newspapers and you will find sex stories within, be it in any forms, sexual crime or an infamous political scandal.

If sexual content is not enough, try on a ridiculous political bickering among the politicians. The topics could be anything from blowing up somebody to putting a slipper on someone's portrait. Oh, here is the latest one, chicken egg.

I for one used to religiously follow the news and used to read newspaper for hours. My liking was neither on the latest gossips nor the criminal news. I have never even finished read the full articles on the sports section, glancing through the pictures and skimming on the headlines would be enough for I do not waste my time on the empty talk on the corridor discussing about the last night's game.

It is unbelievable how the general population perceive the media as an utterly truth, luckily not in my generations and not in our country. At a time when we Malaysians spend million of dollars to help the affected area hit by tsunamis, earthquakes, and tropical storms, there are some people who actually want to 'sweep' us. Thanks to their media editors who portrays us as trouble maker and sadistic creatures who like to treat their people sub-humanly.

It looks like the media has been used to gain publicity and create havoc. Thank God that I finally realized that it is okay not to be in the know all the time and knowing only does not help you in your life either- it is the action that counts.

How arrogant we are

Every turn in our life, there is a moment when we stay put on a junction, unable to clear our mind and decide which path to take. We long for a path that bring joy, happiness and good health. When time passed and we still undecided, we seek solitude and started to listen to our heart and soul. For in solitude, the mind became so clear and the senses became so strong, they took over logic and emotions.

After the journey continues, we place our fate in God's hand and go on with our life. When we hit a bump on the road, we tend to say that it is a God's will and there is nothing we can do about it. How arrogant we are to put the blame on the Creator. We used the religious teachings to escape the guilty of our misjudgments, the wrong decisions that we made and the miseries we inflicted upon people along the way.

Ironically, when someone made a mistake, we quickly blame the person, we attack his character, we dig up his past and shame him in public, we stripped him off from his dignity and values. How arrogant we are to play God, when at the same time we blame Him for our own mistakes.

How arrogant we are.

take care!

Why should I care?

Why should I care the suffering of the people in Gaza?
The plight of Palestinians?
The land of Kampung Buah Pala?
The death of Teoh Beng Hock?
The trial of Anwar?
PKFZ?
Khir Toyo’s house?
PPSMI?
The haze?
H1N1?
ISA?
Global Warming?
The planet?
The universe?
etc-etc.

I care because I want to,
because life would be empty and meaningless,
because I should,
because the world wants to,
because I don’t live alone,
because it a soo damn important.

Don’t think because it happens to somebody else,
I wont happen to you.

Love each other or perish!

The Rat Race

Malays are lazy lots? Former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad blamed it on Malay heredity, socio-economy, and British’s divide-and-conquer rule in his book of The Malay Dilemma which I do not agree 100%. His views which I believe were based on the scientific and technology knowledge at that time.

Since then, the advance in science and technology has improved tremendously and has resulted in new scientific findings especially in neuroscience and social studies. Even though a lot of explanations can be made about the social economic problem in a very scientific ways but still, I believe a lot of them are influenced by this one word- ATTITUDE.

Economically, one attitude can be manipulated with the incentive offered in terms of monetary or what not. The great civilizations in my humble opinion were built on this very element. Roman Empire, Greeks, China, India, Byzantine, Persian, Islamic civilization and later Europe and America- their greatness were achieved with a very single purpose, to become great which in turns provides all the incentives in return; the control of economy, trading routes, trading ports, endless supply of resources, manpower, security, and etc-etc. With all the incentives, the knowledge of science and technology and arts flourished and people from all four corners of the earth flocked together to get their own incentives.

In the modern world, the same thing can be seen all over the places and the economist are patience enough to wait, observe and analyze the human behaviors with regards to these ever changing incentives. Ever wonder why a fifth of the world’s cranes are now in Dubai even though it’s damn dry and hot? Ever wonder why London is the financial capital even though the weather is always dark and gloomy? Ever wonder why Israel survives in the middle of the Arab nations? Ever wonder why the Arabs failed to stand together?

Ever wonder why Malaysians too lazy to read? Ever wonder why the frenzy over reality shows? Ever wonder why North Korea willing to spend billions of dollars over nuclear technology and at the same time leaves its people with poverty and starvation. Ever wonder why US companies willing to invest abroad and leave its people jobless? It is all about incentive, incentive and incentive.

So when a lot of Malaysian professionals prefer to work abroad, they cannot be seen as less patriotic or ungrateful, like the normal people with rational thinking, they are merely responding to the incentives. Thus, when our Prime Minister acknowledge this recently and promise the same kind of incentives back home with the new economic model, I have nothing but to applaud this one. I believe the time for socialist-based model has to come to an end. The policy, rules and regulations carries less impact than the direct incentives offered.

Thus, let the rat race begins!
